Amen Fitting song for our time together in God's Word this morning, as you will soon see If you've got your Bible in Hebrews chapter 3, Hebrews chapter 3, verse number One still That's no news for any of you who have been here long enough, but we're trying to help you understand what it means to consider Jesus, compound word, it means to think deeply about Jesus, to penetrate the depths of the knowledge of the truth about the Lord Jesus

That's what we're trying to do as we Begin to understand what Hebrews 3, verse number 1 says: that we are children of God and we are partakers of the heavenly calling We are called holy brethren. because we are His children, because we've been called by God by a heavenly, holy, and high calling, the least we can do is to consider Jesus in all of His glory and all of His splendor And that is our des this morning It has been for the last three weeks, will be for this week, and of course, next week as well And maybe even the week after that, as we look at Hebrews 3, verses 1 to 6

So let me remind you once again What Hebrews 3: says It says, These words: Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus the apostle, which was his prestigious Mission He was the sent one It was prestigious because it was in submission to his father for the salvation of man as to why his mission was as prest Prestigious as it was, and we spent several weeks talking to you about that prestigious mission We are to consider The apostle and the high priest of our confession, not just his prestigious Mission, but his priestly ministry Okay? His priestly ministry

And I'm going to do something I very rarely do, and that is resist the temptation to talk to you about About Jesus Christ as priest, even though it says the high priest of our confession And the reason I'm going to resist that temptation is because half of Hebrews is about the priesthood of the Messiah And we're going to spend a lot of time talking to you about why Christ was the sufficient supreme priest And so, I don't want to spend my time today doing that, but I'm going to spend a lot of time over the next several months talking to you about the high priest of our confession He is a priest

But he's not in the line of Aaron He's not from the tribe of Levi And so the rabbis will say, well, he can't be a priest because he's not From the right tribe He's from the tribe of Judah, not the tribe of Levi So there comes the discrepancy when you talk to a Jewish person about Christ being the high priest Now remember, he's writing to Hebrew people, he's writing to Jewish people He's going to prove to them that Jesus is the high priest of their confession

In Israel's economy, they only had one high priest, and Jesus Christ is the chief of all the high priests because he is the one. who made propitiation for our sins He was the one who represents us to God He is the one who intercedes for us daily, as Hebrews 7 says And so when we come to Hebrews 7, we're going to show you why he's not in the tribe of Levi, why he's not a descendant of Aaron, why he is a descendant of Judah, and why he's in the order of Melchizedek And you'll say, well, who's that? You gotta wait till we get to chapter 7 for me to explain that to you But we will in great detail

But notice what it says It says that he is the high priest of our con Ham, which means to say the same thing In other words, we are going to say the same thing about Jesus That God the Father says about Jesus We're going to agree with God the Father about the identity of who Jesus is Jesus said: if you confess me before men, if you say the same thing, About me, that is what my father says about me You agree with what my father says about who I am If you confess me before men, I will then confess you before My Father who is in heaven

But if you don't confess me before men, if you don't say before men exactly what the truth is about who I am, Then I will not confess you before my Father who is in heaven So we must understand what we are to confess Listen to what John says John says in 1 John chapter 3, these words, verse number 21 He says, I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie is of the truth Who is the liar? But the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One, the Messiah This is Antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son

If you deny that Jesus is the Messiah. then you have denied both the Father and the Son That makes you anti- Not the antich, that's big A, but an antich In 1 John 4, verse number 1, it says, Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone into the world By this you know the Spirit of God Every spirit that confesses that says the same thing about Jesus that God the Father says about Jesus, that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God

So if you say that Jesus is the Messiah, That the Messiah has come in the flesh, you're from God If not, You're not from God Over in 2 John, verse number 7, John says these words: 2 John 7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh This is the deceiver and the Antichrist In other words, if you say that Jesus is not the Christ, he is not the Anointed One, He is not the Messiah, Okay, you have not said the same thing about Jesus that God the Father has said about him You have denied both the Father and the Son

You are an Antichrist You are not from God Make sense? So we, as we consider Jesus, we consider the high priest of our confession In other words, we consider his priestly ministry But because we will spend the bulk of our time talking about that priestly ministry, let me move on very rapidly to point number three So we move in the fact that we are to consider his prestigious mission because he is the apostle We are to consider his priestly ministry because he is the high priest of our confession Which leads us to point number three: that we are to consider his pro messiahship

He has pro Messiahship Because he's the high priest of our confession And if we are to confess that Jesus is the Christ, and it says down in verse 6, so jump down to verse 6 of Hebrews 3, where it says this But Christ was faithful as a son In other words, the Messiah was faithful as a son We are to consider his proven Messiahship The question comes, do you have to believe that Jesus is the Messiah in order to be saved? The answer is absolutely Absolutely, you must believe that Jesus is the Messiah in order to be saved How do we know that? John chapter 20 John says these words

Therefore, verse 30, many of the signs Jesus also performed in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book, but these are written So you may believe that Jesus is the Christ Jesus is Mashiach, He is the anointed one The Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name In other words, John has written this book The Gospel of John, that you might belie that Jes is God in the flesh And that God in the flesh is the Messiah If you believe that Jesus is God, you must believe He is the Messiah

The two go hand in hand because the Messiah, the Christ, has come in The flesh Now, why is this important? This is absolutely essential So, if we're going to consider Jesus, if we're going to think deeply about the fact of his proven Messiahship, We must truly believe that Jesus is the Messiah sent by God to be the Savior, the deliverer, the Redeemer of mankind You must understand that You must come to grips with that Why? Because, believe it or not, during the time of Jesus, they didn't

And so you're going to have to ask the question: how is it that the Messiah who did come in the flesh was not believed on by the people? Whereby he proved his messianic credentials We believe in the revelation of God We believe in the truth of God We have it in print We read it We understand it We believe it as Christians today But how is it, how is it the Jewish nation missed it? During our nine-year study of Luke, there were three pert passages that deal with this issue Three of them, all three absolutely crucial

Remember in Luke 4, this is not one of the three, but in Luke 4, when Christ came into the synagogue in Nazareth We talked about this last week, I believe it was, that he read out of Isaiah 61, verse number 1, which proved that he was the apostle, the sent one And the question came at that point: is this not Joseph's son? During the whole ministry of Christ, there was this over question: who is this man? And they could not come to grips with the identity of the Messiah

So much so was this question so pertinent that even the forerunner to the Messiah Wondered whether or not Jesus was the Messiah Now, think about that John the Baptist was the forerunner of the Messiah John the Baptist Wondered whether or not Jesus, the one he pointed to as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, The one that came after him, whose sandals he was not worthy to untie And as he followed the ministry of Christ, the message of Christ, the miracles of Christ, he still had this

Perm question: Are you the Messiah? Now, how can that possibly be? In Luke chapter 7, you got your Bible, turn to Luke 7 This is the first of the three crucial passages in Luke's Gospel That asks and answer the question Listen, the question of the Messiahship of Jesus Will either, how you answer it, will either damn your soul or deliver your soul Did you get that? How you answer that question will either put you into eternal damnation or eternal deliverance That's how critical the question is It is the most important question in the history of mankind

Who is the Messiah? Who is this man? That is the question So it says in Luke 7, John the Baptist is in prison It says the disciples reported to him about all these things And summoning two of his disciples, John sent them to the Lord, saying, Are you the ex one, or do we look for someone else? Now, if you've been with us long enough, you know I love this passage of scripture Are you the expected one? Why? Because the title, ex one, was a messianic title We know that from Psalm 118, verse number 26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord

He is called in the Greek the Erech, the coming one So, in the Greek trans of the Old Testament, in Psalm:, he is called the Arach, the coming one Also, Psalm 40, verse number 7 The unique thing about Psalm 118:2 is that it's the Psalm that was quoted On the day of his triumphal entry into Jerusalem by the people as they waved their palm branches They quoted Psalm 118:2 because it was a Messianic Psalm And it dealt with the fact that the Messiah was the expected one Charles Wesley wrote a song called, Come Thou Long, Expected Jesus Based on Luke chapter 7, Psalm 118:2, Psalm 40, verse number 7

It is a theological, it is a biblical hymn written about the redemptive purposes of the Messiah of Israel Come thou long expected Jesus because he truly was the ex one Now, let me just veer off for a second The rabbis will tell you That there are 4 separate Old Testament passages Used to refer to the Messiah and Messianic times Four hundred and fifty-s specific passages Okay? And they come in several ways One, there are dire Messianic prophecies Absolute direct, such as Micah 5, verse number 2, Zach 9:9

They are direct passages referring to the Messiah. A conservative number would be 65 of those So of the 4 references, 65 of them, a conservative number, refer specifically to the Messiah him And then there are typical prophecies or pictorial prophecies, such as the whole Levitical system, that would picture The ultimate sacrifice that would atone for the sins of people And so there are many of those throughout the Old Testament

And There are 3 times in the Old Testament where Mashiach, the anointed one, Is used referring specifically to the Messiah, and of those thirty-five, nine of those thirty-five Deal directly with a son from the line of David that will sit on the throne of God as Messiah over Israel You with me? I don't want to lose you Very important Because John would know the Old Testament He would know who the Messiah was because he pointed to the Messiah He knew the Messiah would be sinless and virgin-born Mary and Elizabeth are cousins They knew each other well And so John would be raised in a home

With Zacharias and Elizabeth surrounding the story of the birth of the Messiah He knows Jesus is sinless He knows he's the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world He knows that he is virgin-born He preached the kingdom of God is at hand, and the only way you can preach that is if the king is present So the Messiah, who is the king of Israel, is present So he preached that message, but now all of a sudden, he's in prison, and now He says to his disciples, You got to go ask Jesus if he is the ex one

Because the expected one out of Psalm 118 is the desire of the nations, Haggai 2:7, another title for the Messiah He would meet the desire of the nations because he is the long expected one He is, as Isaiah Isaiah 40 said, the constellation of Israel You with me so far? I know I'm throwing a lot of stuff out there, but I'm trying to bring you into the passage to help you understand Here is John the Baptist, the foreign, the Messiah, who now questions the authenticity of the Messiah How can that be? How can that be? And we've told you before, simply because he's in a dungeon

Called the dungeon of dis because the expected one W't fulfilling his ex And when the expected one doesn't fulfill your expectations, You will always doubt the authenticity of the Messiah But when the expected one fulfills his father's expectations, You will always delight in the authenticity of the Messiah You can write that down That's good You see, that's very, very important So, what does Jesus do? Disciples come to him When the men came to him, they said, John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask, Are you the expected one? It's in caps because it's a title for the Messiah

Everybody knew this This was common knowledge It might not be common knowledge to you and me, but it was to a Jewish people Or do we look for someone else? Are we supposed to be looking for somebody else? Are you the guy? At that very time, that very moment, Jesus said nothing, but he cured many people of diseases, afflictions, and evil spirits, and he gave sight to many who were blind Why did he do that? Remember our third point Hebrews 3:1 We are to consider his proven Messiahship

At that moment, instantaneously, without a spoken word, without touching anyone, everybody around him was completely healed Because if you read Isaiah 3, if you read Isaiah chapter 2 Isaiah 42 and Isaiah 61, you know that the messianic credentials was to make sure that all the blind can see, all the deaf can hear, and all the lame can walk Those are his messianic credentials And so, without a word spoken or anybody being touched, everybody around them instantaneously Cured No rehab necessary And then it says these words: You go and report to John what you have seen and what you've heard

Go read 4:10 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleans, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached To them It was a preview of the millennial reign of the Messiah It was a preview of everything the Old Testament pointed to as to what would happen when Israel was a restored nation, a redeemed nation He gave him, he gave his disciples a pre of what was going to happen when Messiah ruled and reigned On the earth, you go tell John what you have seen You go tell John what you have heard You make sure he understands

The lame are able to walk, the blind are able to see The diseased are cured, the deaf can hear, and the poor have the gospel preached to them And then he says, Blessed is he who does not take offense of me Blessed is he who does not stumble over the way I do my business But the question comes Would that not be convincing to everybody who was there? Think about it Multitudes followed the Christ Not just a few, not just 10 or 12 or 20 or 30 or 40 or 50 or 100 or 200 Thousands of people followed the Christ And they all see it, they all hear the question

Are you the Messiah? The expected one? John wants to know The forerunner of the Messiah wants to know if you're the Messiah If the forerunner of the Messiah questions the authenticity of the Mess I always say this, bet your sweet bippy that a lot of us question the authenticity of the Messiahship See, his expectations were not being met He was in prison That's why we call it the dungeon of dis, but he was completely disillusioned because if you're the Messiah Why am I in prison? If you're the Messiah, where's the kingdom? I spent my whole life

Serving you. I've had my whole life preparing for this ministry. I spent my whole life for this brief six months to a year ministry, and now you come on the scene and you take over, which you rightly should, and now I'm in prison Doesn't seem to be fair It doesn't seem to be right My expectations are not being met Are you the expected one? Because my expectations are not met There was doubt Christ, he would assure his disciples so that they could go back and assure John But the question comes: how is it? That everybody else didn't get it when they were right there witnessing it

We don't have that privilege, do we? We weren't there So the forerunner of the Messiah asks The most important question one could ever ask: Are you the Messiah? That's the most important question Are you the one we're expecting? Life's most important question But when Jesus asks the question, because he does, it even adds credence To its importance It makes it even more important Let's say it makes it mega-important And so now you go from Luke chapter 7 over to Luke chapter 9 Luke chapter 9 And we're going to help you see something that will help you understand

We believe and can consider his proven messiahship because we know that he is the messiah, but why is it people miss that? Why is it they don't get that? Why is it they don't grasp that? Because you've got to believe that Jesus is the Messiah in order to be saved Right? So, why is it they don't believe this? Well, it says, and it happened that while he was praying at verse number 18 of Luke chapter 9 Disciples were with him, and he questioned him, saying, Who do people say that I am? Here's the question Now, Jesus is going to ask the question Okay? John the Baptist has asked the question

Now Jesus asks the question John the Baptist asks it because he doubts the authenticity of the Messiah Jesus asks it because he wants to Declare his authenticity to his men They need to see it Why? Because they've already asked the question in the boat When there was a storm, and Jesus calms the storm, and they say, Who is this man? That even the winds and the waves obey him Who is this? Even the disciples were asking the question On top of that, Herod asked the question If you go up earlier in Luke chapter 9, verse number 7, Herod the Tetrarch heard of all that was happening

He was greatly perplexed because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead John the Baptist is now dead, and now all these things are happening He hears that John the Baptist has been raised from the dead Wow, and so it says, and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen again And Herod said, I myself had John beheaded But who is this man? About whom I hear such things Again, the question is being raised because that was the prominent question of the day Who is this man? Who is he? So Jesus asked his men

Matthew gives us the account that it's in Caesarea Philippi, up in the northern part of the land of Israel, up where Teld is, up at the base of Mount Hermon He asked the question In Matthew just count, he says, Who do people say the Son of Man is? Here, Luke condenses it and says, Who do people say that I am? That's the question Okay, so they answered and said, Well, some say you're John the Baptist We read that about what they told Herod, right? Some say you're John the Baptist, risen from the dead Others Elijah Matthew's account says Jeremiah, everybody who's dead

You're one of the dead people Having been raised again, it says that one of the prophets of old has risen again In other words, They're saying you're great, but nobody's saying you're God See that? Everybody's saying you're great, but nobody knows who you are Elijah, Jeremiah, one of the prophets Nobody knows who you are But you're great because they see what's happening around you And so it says, He said to them, But who do you say that I am? Again, the question is given It says, Peter answered and said, The Messiah of God Very important statement

Always remember, he's God's Messiah, He's not your Messiah He's God's Messiah He's not Israel's Messiah He's God's Messiah That's why Simeon said in Luke chapter 2 that he was promised that he would not die until he saw the Lord's Christ, the Lord's Messiah Please remember, he's God's Messiah, not your Messiah Because he's God's Messiah, he can become your Messiah simply because Of whose Messiah he is He is the Lord's anointed But notice People are commending him, but in their commendation is a condemnation

In their commendation that you are great, that you are John the Baptist, Jeremiah, one of the prophets risen from the dead, in their commendation is a cond Because their answer was insufficient They never said he was the Messiah No one's saying, You're the Messiah of God Now, Peter does say that. I want to get back to that So the question comes: why isn anybody saying that? Why isn't anybody coming to the conclusion that this is the Messiah when his proven messianic credentials were everywhere? Because we've told you before, Israel had all diseased Banished during the ministry of Christ

Healed everybody How could they not see it? What happened? They simply would not believe the revelation about the God, the truth of the living God John says it this way If you got your Bible, turn to John chapter 12 John chapter 12, it's after the His entry into Jerusalem This is during Passion Week Okay, the question is still being raised Three years of ministry, question is still being asked How on earth did you miss the complete and utter obvious character of the Messiah? How'd you miss it? Question is still being asked Verse 34, John 12

The crowd in and answered him: We have heard out of the wall that the Christ, the Messiah, is to remain forever And how can you say the Son of Man must be lifted up? In other words, he was talking to them about his death They could not conceive that the Messiah who was to live forever would die They could not understand that Who is this son of man? Did you get that? In verse 34 Questions still being asked

This is probably Tuesday of Passion Week, and the question is still being asked: who are you? Who is this man? And so Jesus says, For a little while, the longer the light is among you, walk while you have the light So that darkness will not overtake you He who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become sons of light The light is among you While it's on, and you can see it, embrace it Because if not, you will walk and remain in darkness These things Jesus spoke, and he went away and hid him From them That is tragic

Why would he hide him from them? Why would he remove the light from them? Remember, this is Tuesday of Passion Week He's going to die on Friday He hides himself from them Read on But though he had performed so many signs before them, yet they were not believing in him Wow! He had performed so many signs before them That's why John says at the end of John 20, 30, and 31: many other signs did Jesus do that are not written in this book John says, I can't contain everything that Jesus did in this book

All the signs that he did, they were so numerous, they were so incredible, they were so over the top, I can't even begin to To write about all of them, but he did them to prove that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God And so Jesus makes it very clear that though he performed so many signs before them, they were not believing it Why? How can that be? Read on This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet, which he spoke: Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For this reason, they could not believe

For Isaiah again said, He has blinded their eyes, and he hardened their heart, so that they would not see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, and be converted And I heal them These things Isaiah said because he saw his glory and he spoke of him Wow Listen, their will reject Led to Christ's judicial reject of them Their will rejection of the obvious truth put before them led to the judicial rejection On Christ's part of them because they refuse to believe in the absolute obvious Right in front of them

Why? Why couldn't they believe? That's why we say You are sitting in the most dangerous seat in the world because you've heard the truth And if you don't respond to that truth and you will reject the truth, there's coming a time Where Christ hides him from you, and that will rejection leads to his judicial rejection, and you have no opportunity to repent And the book of Hebrews speaks voluminously about that And we will cover those passages as we go through it You are sitting in the most dangerous seat known to man Because how you answer this question determines your eternal destiny

Who is this man? Who is he? But read on in John's Gospel, verse 42 Nevertheless, many even of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees, they were not confessing him There we go There's the word confession again, right? He's the high priest of our confession They were not sent Saying the same thing about him that was equivalent to what God the Father said about him They were not confessing him And then it says this, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue, for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God

They did not want to pay the price to believe in Jesus the Messiah They loved the approval of man more than they love the approval of that's why people don't embrace the Messiah when you present the gospel to them They love man's approval They can't let go of what man has to say about them Why is that important? Go back with me to Matthew, I mean to Luke chapter 9 Because Peter says, You are the Christ of God You are the Messiah of God We know who you are Matthew says, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God And what does Jesus say right after that? Oh, blessed are

You, Sim Bar, for flesh and blood did not reveal unto you, but my Father who is in heaven revealed it to you No man revealed that to you Only my Father in heaven did The revelation of God revealed it to you God revealed who I am to you And the only way God does that today is through the revelation of God's Holy Word That's why we preach Jesus as Messiah Listen carefully But he warned them and instructed them not to tell anyone Why? Because of their will rejection of all the signs and wonders that he performed There now becomes a judicial rejection on his part toward them And he says this

The Son of Man must suffer many things, be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, be killed, be raised up on the third day Right? Talks about his death And then he says this, and he was saying to them all: If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me Now you equate that with what John just said, you understand why people don't embrace the Christ You can't deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow him if you're so enamored with the approval of man You can't do that You won't do that

We live in the most narcissistic time of our history in America, where everybody is so self-absorbed That when you present the gospel to them about denying them, taking up the cross and follow him, they're saying, Well, wait a minute, I can't deny the approval of my friends. I can 't reject the affirmation of my buddies. I can 't. I can't go through that We are so enamored with ourselves, so in love with ourselves, that to deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Christ, which means you've got to set aside all selfish ambition, all selfish desires, and do only what Christ will

Want you to do because you can do that if you understand that Christ is the Messiah But if you don't believe that Christ is the Messiah, you're not going do that, you won't do that Because you can't do that So important But there's another question That Jesus asks And he asks it, he asks it on a Wednesday The last public appearance It's the last question Jesus asks It follows the last question asked by the public or asked by the religious leaders When they came in, remember, he said, What is the foremost commandment? Remember that? And Christ answered that question on Wednesday of Passion Week

And it says in Mark's gospel, no one dared ask him any more questions after that Well, he knows that no one's going to ask him any more questions So, what does he do? He asked the question If you're not going to ask me a question, let me ask you a question Can I do that? And he does it simply because Simply because he came to seek and to save that which is lost, and the compassion of the Christ He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked He wants people to embrace him He wants people to know who he is And so he asks One last question

The last question that Jesus asks during his earthly ministry We know what the last question was that the people asked, or the religious leaders asked Now, this is the last question that Jesus asks Because it's the only question that matters Because if you answer it wrong, you're damned If you answer it right, you're delivered How you answer the question about the identity of the Messiah determines everything about your eternal destiny Jesus knows that He knows I'm not going to ask him any more questions He's answered all their questions, and yet they refuse to believe

So now he's going to ask them a question That is in later on Luke's Gospel, but I want to read to you from Matthew's account because it gives us more of a detail But it says these words In Matthew's account, verse number 41, it says, Luke 2, 41, I'm sorry, Matthew 22, 41 Now, while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question This is the last question This is so rich The proven Messiahship is something we must consider, we must meditate upon, we must think deeply about You must know that Jesus is the Messiah of God

That he is the Son of God, you must understand the identity of the Christ It's everything This is the last question Jesus asks Here it is What do you think? About the Messiah? That's the question The Christ What do you think about Mashiach? Whose son is he? That's the question Only question that matters, right? Jesus isn't going to ask frivolous questions He's not going to ask questions like, what's the temperature going to be today? He didn't care He didn't ask the question: Is it going to rain tomorrow, next week? He didn't care That didn't bother him

He controls the weather anyway, right? He doesn't ask questions that are frivolous He only asks questions that matter. I mean, what else would he do? He asks questions that really matter So he asked the question: What do you think about the Christ? What are we doing? We are considering the Messiah We are thinking deeply about the Messiah We want to know who the Messiah is We want to understand his proven Messiahship That's what Hebrews 3, verse number 1 says We're looking to do, Jesus comes back and says, What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he? Only question it matters

But their answer is deficient, although they think they got it right Well, they say The son of David And you can imagine the Pharisees standing around, patting each other on the back Yeah, we got that right He can't fool us We got it right You know? And Rabbi so-and-so would congratulate Rabbi So-and-so, and Rabbi So-and-so would congratulate Rabbi So-and-so And they were all, w Oh man, dude, you are so on top of it You know your Old Testament You are so smart Oh man, I wish I was as smart as you were, man That's great Son of David. I know what time has gone Hang with me, okay? This is so good

He said to them, Then how does David in the spirit call him Lord? Let me ask another question Because you've got to take them back to Psalm 110 By the way, Messianic Psalm, most quoted messianic psalm in the New Testament is Psalm 1 Every Jew Every Jew knew Psalm 110 was Messianic Oh, by the way, after this, the rabbis changed the interpretation of Psalm 110 to mean Abraham Melchizedek or Judas Maccabe They changed the interpretation of Psalm 110 no longer to be Messianic after this conversation You don't think they know the New Testament? Oh, they do Well, they know what it says

They know about the encounter And so How does David, in the spirit, speaking that this is under the inspiration of Scripture, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, Psalm 110, call him Lord, saying, the Lord Jehovah God said to my Lord, my Lord, sit at my right hand until I put your enemies beneath your feet If David then calls him Lord, by the way, is in the present tense In the Hebrew? If David then calls him Lord, how is he his son? How is it Messiah can be alive at the time? Of David, and yet in the future be the son of David

In other words, the Messiah is the eternal God who's always existed, who is the great I am And you know, all throughout John's Gospel, he said, I am And when they came to get him in the garden, they said, He asked the question, Who do you seek? That's probably the last question he asks Who do you seek? They said, Jesus of Nazarene What's he say? I am. E, Am The Greek translation of the book of Exodus, where God spoke out of the burning bush and said, I am sent you And so here is Christ explaining once again He's interpreting for them Psalm 110

The Messianic Psalm that every Jew knew was Messianic He interpreted it for them so they would know that the son of David is the eternal God who, in the inspiration of Scripture, said to him these words, therefore we know The identity of the Messiah And then the text says these words Verse 46: No one Was able to answer him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day on to ask him another question Why would they ask him another question? Because no other question matters This is the only one that matters Who is Jesus Christ? Christ is in his last name It's not Jesus Christ, like L at Sparks

Sparks are my last name Christ isn his last name Christ is the identity of the Savior of the world, the Messiah of God is the Savior of the world The angel said it well For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior who is what? Messiah of the Lord His proven messiahship is what we need to truly think deeply about Let me pray with you Father, we're grateful for today We've gone long, yet the questions are so pertinent for today We need to understand them We need to come to grips with them Who is Jesus? It's all that matters You ask the question John the Baptist asked the question

Everybody around you is asking the same question: Who is this man? The ironic thing is, Lord, is the only way we know your identity is if you reveal him to us Fles and blood does not reveal unto us, but your Father in heaven does So we use your word to proclaim the gospel of Christ to a lost world That through the inspiration of that word and the power of the Spirit of God, people might come to see who you are In Jesus' name we pray Amen.
